Miss Parker spun in the direction of the sound realizing it had come from within the Parker family gravesite.

Heart pounding, she crept through the gate into the solemn grounds to a headstone with the name Catherine Parker.  Miss P swallowed dryly.  Atop her mother’s resting place was a present – a present left for her by Jarod.

Miss Parker couldn’t feel her feet in those last couple of steps to the grave.  She hadn’t set foot here since the day she dropped a handful of soil onto the coffin and turned her back on her mother – the way she felt her mother had turned her back on her.  She’d walked away intending never to return.  On that day, from deep inside her soul, Little Miss had summoned a stern look she’d locked upon her face to keep from crying, from feeling the pain. It was a look that had remained on her face for far too many years.  She summoned it again now as she knelt down and reached for the present.
