The Pretender Paths Revealed
Part 1
by Cathryn

Miss Parker sat at her computer, dumb-founded by what she had just been emailed. It was a picture of Jarods’ and her mother Catherine, together. She and Jarod had received it at the same time, but neither one of them knew what it meant or who it was from. Parker decided that she wouldn’t be able to sleep tonight so she got in her car and just started driving. She wound up at her mother’s empty grave. She had gone there for years, when she thought her mother’s body was in the grave, as a place of retreat. Now, Parker wasn’t sure of much, except for the fact that she wasn’t sure of much.

She couldn’t trust her father, that is if he even is her father. He had lied to her for many years. The fact that her mother had committed suicide. The so-called death of her twin brother, whom she discovered, was Lyle. Her mother’s body not being in her grave, and now the icing on this devils food cake, that Mr.Parker, is not her father. The familiar phrase of her father ran through her head “Trust me” “If it’s your father of Jarod, who are you going to trust?” “Don’t you trust me?” Parker almost missed her exit off the express way remember her fathers garbage.

Parker turned into the cemetery, and though it was late, no one locked the gates at night so she didn’t have to worry about getting in. She parked her car nearby and started walking toward the grave when the next thing she knew, she was in a different place. It was sunny and there was the smell of flowers in the air. Then Miss Parker saw someone very familiar to her, it was her mother.

“Mom, I don’t understand, you’re not supposed to be here, I’m not supposed to be here.”

Catherine walked closer to her and said, “ Angel, you have been given a gift, the gift that was given to me and to your brother Ethan.”

Miss Parker than said, “Mom I know about the inner sense, Jarod already told me that you told him I would have it.”

Catherine said, “ Your gift, is the most important thing you can use to discover your true path. Don’t let anyone tell you anything about who you are or where you came from. Use your inner sense to guide you and you will discover the truth about your path and Jarod’s.”

Catherine then walked off and faded in the distance. “Wait mom, you can’t leave me, what does Jarod have to do with me?”

Parker was suddenly jerked back to reality and she discovered that she had not gone anywhere, but was still in the cemetery by her mother’s grave. Parker asked herself if it was a dream, but she couldn’t have been asleep. She decided that it was her inner sense trying to help her. No it was her mother working through Parker’s inner sense trying to help her sort things out. It was now past 1a.m. and Parker was actually getting tired so she decided to go home and try to sleep for a couple of hours.

All the way home Parker thought of her mother’s words. She didn’t understand why her mother had said “ Use your inner sense to guide you and you will discover the truth about your path and Jarod’s.” Why had her mother brought Jarod into the conversation? True her mother wanted to save him, but Parker was more than uneasy with the thought that she would discover not only her path, but Jarod’s as well.

It was almost 4 am by the time Parker had gotten home. She had taken a detour to a local liquor store and picked up a bottle of single-malt scotch, (her favorite), and a bottle of tequila. When Parker got home, she noticed that her front door was unlocked and that her kitchen light was on. She instinctively drew her gun and entered her home searching for the moron that was invading her privacy. “I’m really not in a good mood tonight, so whoever is in my house is going to get shot,” she thought to herself. As she turned the corner of her dining room she saw a tall, dark man standing in her kitchen making a sandwich. “All right, put your hands where I can see them and if you twitch, I’ll be washing gray matter off my walls.” The man slowly turned around and low and behold, it was Jarod. He was wearing a leather jacket and black clothing as usual. He also had a huge smirk on his face, apparently not surprised to see Parker.

“Jarod, what the hell are you doing here,” she asked as she put her bag of liquor on her kitchen table.

“Well I was in the neighborhood and thought that I would stop by.” Jarod replied sarcastically. “Don’t you remember Miss Parker, you called me and told me to meet me at your house. You also said that you would be out so to let myself in with the key under your mat. If you ask me, not a brilliant place to hide a spare key.”

“Jarod, I didn’t call you. I was out all night and I left my cell phone here.”

“Stop playing games Parker, I know that you called me. You even said that it was you. Now what did you need to tell me that couldn’t be said over the phone.”

Parker stood dumbfounded in her kitchen trying to decide what to tell Jarod, and figure out who the hell called him, because it sure as hell wasn’t her. Then, just as Parker was about to throw Jarod out, she was again in that sunny place where she had had the conversation with her beloved mother.

“Angel,” Catherine said as she appeared in the distance, “Trust Jarod with what I have told you. He has a trusting soul and you will have to work together in order to discover your paths’.”

“Miss Parker, are you there? Hello anyone home.” Parker was then brought back to reality and realized that she had had another vision.

“Miss Parker are you alright? Do you want to sit down?”

“No Jarod I’m fine, I just had another vision that’s all.”

“Wait you’re having visions? When did this start?”

“A while ago, when Ethan was staying with you, I kept having a vision that I was stuck under some metal and was about to be impaled by a flaming kabob, until my mother saved me. I found out later that it was a premonition and that Ethan told my mother to save me.”

“That’s why he called me and said that you were in trouble, I understand now. So what is the latest vision you are having?”

“Well I am in a sunny park and I can smell flowers in the air, then I see my mother in the distance and she talks to me. She said that she would help me discover my true path, and that I would help you discover your path.”

“My path?” Jarod questioned, “I wonder what she meant by that.

“Look, I have no idea what she meant, but I’m willing to find out. My mother said that the only way we could discover our paths was by working together. Do you want to give it a shot?”

“Yes, only if you promise not to turn me into the centre.” Jarod said.

“Agreed” The two then shook hands and settled in for the night. It was late and they would need their rest if they were going to discover the truth. Jarod slept on the couch and Miss Parker slept in her bed. During the night Miss Parker had another vision.

“Angel, Mr. Raines knows all the secrets. Find Raines and you will have found the key to both your pasts. Check the centre email files and trace Raines account. You will find his address. Be careful my baby.”
