On The Run
By: G. Barton

Jarod was on the run but no one knew where. He was closer
than they thought. While Miss Parker had Broots running down
Jarod's clues, Jarod had another plan.

Mr. Raines had his sweepers tap the phone lines and watch the
Centre employees every move, hoping to close in on Jarod
before the others could. For he had a new and improved
experiment to test and Jarod was the perfect subject.

Jarod knew the employees were being watched, so he was
careful with every move. He called Sydney to warn him. Not
knowing where Jarod was, he asked him how he knew this.

Jarod tells him, "never mind that, just be careful."

While Miss Parker had Broots busy with the clues they found,
Broots and Sydney had Angelo analyze them. She decided to
call it a night and told Syd to call her with any news. She
was not going to spend the rest of the night chasing "boy
wonder".

Parker arrived to a dark and lonely house, only to find
herself not alone. She heard something coming from the
bedroom. Pulling her gun out she asked, "Who's there?"

Jarod, wearing all black, comes out into the light, scaring
her. She tells him, she is not letting him leave. He is going
back to the Centre and she will be the one to bring him in.

When Jarod starts talking about how she will let him go
because her mother tried to free him and other children.

She can't do it. Parker asked him, "What are you doing here?"

He tells her, he has some more information about her mother.
As he starts to tell her, there is a knock at the door.

Miss Parker goes to the door to find her father standing
there. She opens the door and asked, "What do you want?"

He replies, "Hello Angel, I am sorry that I missed you
earlier. May I come in."

Parker tells him, "I know the same ol story and no, you may
not come in. If you are finished now, I would like to go to
bed. It has been a long day."

Mr. Parker replied, "Good night Angel. You look like hell.
Get some sleep."

She shuts the door and watches her father drive away to only
see a sweeper team outside her house. She calls out for
Jarod to find he must have slipped out.

In the middle of the night, Miss Parker awoke from a
nightmare to find Jarod standing by her bed. She said, with
her heart racing, "Will you quit doing that?"

Jarod asked, "Quit doing what?"

"Scaring me like that." Parker answered trying to catch her
breath. "What are you doing here? There is a sweeper team
outside my house."

Jarod replied, "I know. I saw them out there and I am not
surprised. We have to leave."

The sweeper team was moving in. Watching every move, hoping
to find Jarod before anyone else.

She told him, "I am not going anywhere with you."

He asked, concerned for her safety, "Do you want to live or
die? If you stay here they will get you and if you go with me
you will have a chance to hear about your mother. It is up to
you."

Miss Parker and Jarod slipped out the back of her house.
Jarod took her to a safe place. This time he was going to
hold her captive instead of the other way around.

When they get to an apartment far, far away from the sweeper
team, Mr. Raines, and of course, her father. Jarod begins to
tell her some information about her mother in return for the
information about his family.

As he is telling her about her mother, she doesn't believe
him.

Jarod replies angerly, "Who are you going to believe me or
your father. He has made you what you are today, unstead of
the girl I once knew. I can't believe you would trust him
over me."

Parker is convinced that Jarod is telling the truth. She
calls Sydney and has him to get Broots help pulling up
anything they can find about Jarod and his family, along with
the information Jarod has told her.

Sydney asked her with concern in his voice, "Where are you
because Raines is suspicious. He sent a team to your house
and no one has heard from you today."

She tells Syd, "Never mind me just get the information. I
will call you later to see what you have." She hangs up the
phone.

In the mean while Jarod and Miss Parker are bonding like they
did when they were children. She pretends not to care about
no one but herself and knows deep down in her heart she cares
about Jarod too.

Then, Angelo sends a message to Jarod to tell him Mr. Raines
sent a team to get him. Jarod tells Parker, "We have to
leave."

Parker tells Jarod to go she will handle things from here.

Jarod tells her, "No, you have to come with me."

She tells him, "Get out of here before they show up. I will
talk to you soon."

Jarod slips out the back while Miss Parker raises her gun to
shoot when the team comes in. While Raines is asking Parker,
"What are you doing here?" Sydney watches Jarod run away.

Parker answered, "The same thing you are doing here, looking
for Jarod."

Now back at the Centre, Jarod calls Miss Parker to see if she
is fine. She tells him she has some more information for him
and they have to meet. Jarod tells her when and where. She
tells him she will be there. She wasn't the only one that
would be there either.

Later in the evening, Sydney, Miss Parker, and Broots are
waiting for Jarod, and they were not alone. Jarod sent a
messager, dressed all in black, to meet them. When Miss
Parker goes to meet him, the sweepers grab him. Parker was
furious until she noticed it wasn't him. Mr. Raines accuses
Miss Parker of protecting Jarod.

She tells him harshly, "You should be the one that needs
protecting if you ever underestimiate me again."

After thinking she has lost Jarod forever she goes home to
relieve some stress, hoping to find him there again. She
walks in, yet again, to a dark and lonely house to find
nobody else there. After a long hot bath she sits on the
couch with her wet hair dripping down her back. She has a
drink in one hand and a cigarette in the other, wondering
where he could be. The phone rings, she answers, "What" to
find Jarod on the other end. She tells him, "I'm sorry
about what happened."

Jarod tells her, "I knew that would happen so, I sent someone
else." Then he asked, "What did you find out?"

She answers with what she found out.

He asked her is she got his present he left for her.

She answered, "No" like a little girl waiting for a
surprise.

Jarod answered, "It is closer than you think. Bye."

She goes into her bedroom and finds a picture of her and her
mother and says, "Thank you Jarod."

The End!
