Miss Parker pulled the blanket more firmly around herself, trying to shelter herself from the harsh reality.
She didn’t want to pursue the road her thoughts were headed but found herself unable to stop. The promises had taken up too big a part of her life.
She snorted softly.

That was all they had been… empty promises never to be fulfilled.
The pitiful thing was that she had never stopped believing in them.
