“I spy with my little eye something beginning with B.”

Miss Parker rolled her eyes in frustration. Both at the obviousness and the game. “Brick wall.”

Jarod huffed in amusement. “How did you know?”

“Lucky, lucky guess.”

She imagined he was probably smiling. “Come on, it’s your turn now.”

Miss Parker rolled her eyes again. Not that it was a particularly useful thing to do given the darkness, and the fact that Jarod probably wasn’t facing her anyway. It helped a little though.

“Don’t roll your eyes, Miss Parker. It’s fun.”

Or maybe he didn’t need to.

“Fine. I spy with my little eye something beginning with D.”

Jarod was silent a moment. “Darkness?”

“No, your impending death.”

Again silence but she knew Jarod was just on the cusp of saying something. She knew better than to hope it was “I’ve had a brilliant idea and can get us out of here right now and then I’ll happily come back to the Centre with you.”

“What?”

“Well… impending death technically starts with an I.”

Miss Parker sneered. “So does imminent.”

She could sense Jarod smiling. Bastard. He knew she wouldn’t do it.

“Well then. I spy with my little eye…”
