In the semi-darkness of the house only the outline of the figure could be seen. At the unmistakable sound of a gun being cocked, the person winced.

“Turn around, slowly!”

He complied. “Why is it that every time we come face to face, I’m encountered with your wrath… or your gun?”

“Why is it that every time we come face to face, you snuck up on me instead of announcing your coming?” she countered, clicking the safety back on and letting her gun sink. Her features softened into one of the rare genuine smiles. “So, how’s life treating you, Ethan?”
