(Is this just the eye of the storm or is it finally over?)

It would be so easy, she thinks as she watches him sleep. One phone call and freedom is hers.

(Maybe the real storm hasn't even begun.)

The game is different now. She let him into her bed – but not her heart, never her heart – and everything's changed.

(Maybe this is all you're ever going to get. Maybe this is freedom.)

She picks up her phone. No one's home. Her message is short: "I'm out, Syd. Don't bother looking for me."

(Maybe together they can outrun the storm.)
