Chapter 1 by middleman

He lay awake on the bed. Unsurprisingly, sleep eluded him. Too many thoughts swirling in his head, too many conflicting emotions. Memories and promises warred within him, right and wrong, truth and lies, loyalties, curses and vendettas... After years of denial, he'd finally had to accept the obvious. It was all too much.

He should quit. Turn his back on his masochistic tendencies, break all ties with the Centre, and enjoy the resulting freedom. But there were... friends?... people he felt responsible for, people he needed to look after. Someone in particular. Someone he could never leave. No matter what.
