She was gone – for good – he knew that now and yet, she was still here, all around him, especially in this room; reminding him of what they’d had, of the time they’d shared.

He looked around, seeing all the small mementos he hadn’t been able to bring himself to remove. He could still see her sitting in front of the mirror, braiding her hair, looking up when he entered the room.

Not here but never gone.

He sighed sadly and then closed the door behind him. Turning around, Ben walked down the stairs to make breakfast for the guests.
