Pretender, the web site?

Does anyone know what this means? It's a snippet from an article which I can't find complete. Does anyone know anything about a website sporting characters that didn't actually exist in the series, from which they actually drew characters?

No idea, but chances are if it is true, that website is probably long gone by now. Unfortunately most of the Pretender websites, once prolific, have been lost. There are only a few remaining. This might have to be filed along with the string of unanswered questions at the Centre.

Wow. That must have been splendid. I wish there was some archive somewhere where one could access the stories/adventures/whatevers. Especially so we could see how Brigitte first appeared on there.
